MSP inspires students to take up a career in advanced manufacturing

One of the region’s most dynamic and innovative businesses opened its doors to students to promote a career in software development, and show how their own team of engineers are creating code that is changing the way the manufacturing industry operates on a global scale.

MSP welcomed a group of students to its headquarters in Alnwick to give them a taste of what a career in software engineering involves, and the huge potential the role could hold in a company such as theirs.

The students, the majority of whom were from Newcastle University and the Duchess’s Community High School in Alnwick, took part in a number of practical challenges and learnt how MSP revolutionises the manufacturing processes of major global companies - including BAE Systems PLC, and three leading Formula 1 teams - through their NC-Checker and NC-PerfectPart software.

The visit was led by two fellow young people who are building their careers with MSP - Laurence Reeves, a Senior Engineer who worked for the business on a year-long placement before being sponsored by MSP through his degree at Cambridge University, and Jack Lloyd, who joined as a Graduate Software Engineer after graduating from Newcastle University last year.

MSP has a long-standing commitment to offering opportunities to young people, and this visit was part of an ongoing bid to promote the benefits of a career in the software and engineering sector to aspiring talent. The company has a close relationship with the engineering and technology department at the Duchess’s High School, having previously sponsored the school through their Greenpower car project and shared their expertise within the sector with students during their CAD/CAM studies.
